Finn Fancy Necromancy is a quirky, fun story about a boy/man trying to adjust to a world that’s completely different from the one he is used to. Finn was exiled when he was just 15 for a crime he didn’t commit and when he returns he discovers that whoever set him up isn’t done with him just yet. This book was quite different from other Urban Fantasy books I’ve read and it was nice to read something so completely unique. The characters were diverse and it was just really entertaining to read about Finn’s quest to find out why he’s being targeted. I loved Randy Henderson’s writing style, I was never bored and I wanted to keep reading and see where he’d take the story.
I found the dysfunctional family dynamic very entertaining. It was interesting to read about how much the world and Finn’s family had changed, not necessarily for the better. I really liked Finn’s ex best friend/neighbour Dawn, she was probably one of my favourite characters and I loved how she just told it like it is. Zeke was also one of my favourites, I loved how his character developed throughout the book and how you got to know him as he opened up.
The magic system in this world was really interesting and I loved learning about the ARC and the wars between the Fae and the humans. I loved learning about the different types of magic within this magical world and how they intersected with the non-magical world. I also really liked learning about the different types of Fae, especially the gnomes, they were a personal favourite. Throughout when Finn referred to the bad guys as Legion I couldn’t help but see this guy. I thought that the plot was perfectly paced and the twists and turns were really entertaining. The ‘big reveal’ of the bad guy though slightly predictable was still really surprising in certain aspects. I couldn’t have predicted some of the things that happened which I really liked.
I have to be honest though, Finn irritated me sometimes in this book. He made some choices that made me want to shake him and tell him to stop. Despite this I really did love the story and I’m definitely going to pick up the sequel, especially after that ending! It was a really entertaining, fast paced read and I’d definitely recommend it. 🙂
